My Background

Hi!  My name is Kim Griffith-Fraley.  I have been playing and teaching the flute for over 40 years in Northern and Southern California.  I have my Master of Arts in Musical Performance from CSU Los Angeles on the flute.  I am the owner and Lead Instructor at MissKim4Music Studio.


  My major teachers were Patricia Garside (CSU Los Angeles), Anne Diener Zentner (LA Philharmonic) and Jim Walker (LA Philharmonic).  I am also a credentialed teacher in the State of California with a Single-Subject credential for K-12 Music.  In addition to running a successful private studio, I have also taught grades 3-12 Band and Orchestra, and I am currently teaching Elementary Music and Band in the local schools. I have also coached flute sectionals at local middle and high schools, and I am a Woodwind Adjudicator for the MTAC.  I have also had post-graduate training in the Suzuki Method  for Flute and Piano. 


When I teach, I personalize the method I use based on what the student needs.  I may use Suzuki alone, or a combination of Suzuki and Traditional methods, or just Traditional Methods.  It all depends on the student.


 I am a member of the Music Teachers' Association of CA (MTAC)-Delta Branch, in which I have served as President, Vice President, and Secretary, and I am also a member of the National Association for Music Education (Nafme).,  Many of my students have been first-chair players in their school bands and summer band programs, and some have gone on to study music at the University Level.

Sharing my Passion

I am a strong believer that everyone should be able to have a life of music. That's why I became a teacher. I have touched hundreds of students throughout the years through my private studio and through my teaching of instrumental and classroom music throughout my career. 


 Whether you're just a beginner, intermediate, or an advanced student needing guidance, let's explore music together!  


Personally, I love expressing myself when I perform solo on the flute!  It's a wonderful thing when you put your heart and soul into your instrument while you are learning all of the foundational skills, so that one day, you too, can perform and share music with others!  You will LOVE it!


My Classes

I offer both group and private lessons, separated by skill level.  I offer 30 min, 45 min., and 60 min. lessons. 


 My major instrument is the flute, but I also have training in piano, clarinet, saxophone, violin and cello.  And yes, I can also teach brass and percussion, but I prefer to keep my private studio to the instruments listed above.  


My flute and piano students are offered the opportunity to participate in the 

Certificate of Merit Program  offered by the MTAC (www,mtac.org).  This is a yearly state testing program, levels prep-advanced, that covers technique, solo performance, and music theory.  Participation is encouraged, but not mandatory.
